Healthy Small Groups Start With Your Systems & Processes

Last week I was part of a webinar, hosted by CCB (a MAG Partner) with Steve Caton … and Jay McGuirk of FBC Hattiesburg.

We covered off a few topics tied to small group health.

  1. How technology plays a part in enhancing your church’s small group efforts.
  2. Visibility into small group health takes focus.
  3. Measuring life change starts with taking subjective ideas and creating objective measurement.
  4. Reporting for small group health takes consistency (and, then action).
  5. Real-life EXAMPLE from Jay McGuirk at FBC Hattiesburg
  6. Q&A at the end

Here are the webinar notes if you wish to download: MAG & CCB – Small Groups Webinar – Notes – April 2012

Thank you CCB for making an investment in the Kingdom!

Happy Admin Professionals Day!

Christmas Offerings 101

Christmas Offering

FREE Webinar!

Are you behind budget? Do you have unfunded or underfunded ministries? Do you want to end the year well? What if you had 53 weeks worth of offerings this year? Or better yet, what if you had 13 months worth of income to cover 12 months of expenses.

Even though it’s barely November, you need to be thinking about December. Specifically, you need to think about how you’re going to end the year financially.

This can absolutely happen if you will properly plan and execute a year-end giving initiative or a Christmas offering. Last year, my friend Casey helped over 100 churches conduct a Christmas offering, and most churches received the equivalent of a week’s offering. A few churches even received a month’s worth of offerings in one day!

From November 7, 2011 to November 11, 2011 Casey is teaching a webinar that will happen daily at 10:00 AM EST, 2:00 PM EST and 6:00 PM EST. The webinar is absolutely free, and it will absolutely help your church end the year well. It’s all about the year-end offering. On this webinar, Casey will talk about:

  1. When it’s too late to start planning a Christmas offering
  2. How to communicate with people in the weeks leading up to your offering
  3. What to talk about during your church services
  4. How to ask people for money
  5. How to receive special gifts that DON’T impact regular giving

I believe this webinar will help your church end the year well! Get registered today!

P.S. The webinar happens every day from November 7-11 at 10:00 AM EST, 2:00 PM EST, and 6:00PM EST, but you need to register. (Remember … it’s free.)

The Elephant Room – Round 2

Elephant Room

01 . 25 . 2012

Who’s Going?

According to their website … “The Elephant Room features blunt conversations between seven influential pastors who take differing approaches to ministry. No keynotes. No canned messages. These are “the conversations you never thought you’d hear.” All conversations are moderated by James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel and Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church.”

The next event is on January 25, 2012 and you can register & see location(s) here – they have simulcast sites.

Some questions tied to this event:

  1. Is this needed?
  2. Does this dialogue help the local/global Church?
  3. How has Elephant Room – Round 1 helped you?

Personally, I appreciate healthy & open debate on these matters. Not to divide or create tribes … but to unify … out of respect to the One who made us … and called us according to His plan.

Reaping What We Have Sown

Our family has attended North Point Community Church since 1999. Actually, since the church has grown … we attend a campus on the north-side of Atlanta called Browns Bridge Community Church. Yesterday, 8/21/2011 … Andy Stanley started a series on the American Recovery called “Recovery Road.” Below are my notes … and my attempt (though impossible) to capture all that he said. He’s such a talented communicator.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Recovery Road – Andy Stanley – 8/21/2011

America has some problem(s) tied to out current situation.

  1. Discipline Problem – I don’t want to be told no.
  2. Entitlement Problem – we are spoiled – we whine – we think we have earned it.
  3. Greed Problem – everything that comes to me is for my consumption – the more you have the less you give.
  4. Failure of Nerve Problem – knowing the problem and the right solution- but fears the consequences of doing the right thing so nothing happens.

Recovery is not a political issue. Jesus is not a Republican or a Democrat. Have you read the Gospels? He is not far left or far right – He’s just far out! But, what He speaks – He give us hope – and insight to our road to recovery. I’m not looking at politics any more – except through the filter of my faith.

Matthew 7:3-5Speck vs. Plank

  • Hypocrite! The expectation that someone else should be doing something that you are not willing to do yourself. The plank is in your eye. How can you see clearly?
  • Want to start a Recovery? FIRST - take the plank out of your eye. THEN - if you do this – you will see clearly. You want to see changes? Progress? Deal with you FIRST - then you will see clearly. YOU will see clearly and see a path out.
  • When something about you bothers me – I need to take a hard long look at me – before bothering you.
  • Can you imagine – at the grassroots level – if we did this? If we owned our junk/problems. If only Christians would do this … imagine the positive ramifications in our country.
  • The road to recovery begins with WE not they. ME not you. We don’t have to wait to recover. We can start with us.

Questions for YOU to answer ……..

  1. Are YOU undisciplined with your money?
  2. No “margin” in your life – because your lifestyle is out of control?
  3. Are you greedy? Are you like the average American that only gives 1.5% of your income?
  4. Do you pay all of your taxes? Are you stealing from the government? Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s.
  5. Men – are you caught up on your child support? Are your kids insured? Male irresponsibility is a BIG part of our country’s poverty.
  6. Are you on disability but you know you can work?
  7. Do you have problems in your family but you are afraid to confront? If yes, you have a nerve problem. How can you ask Congress to grow up … if you are not willing to ask tough questions in your own family?
  8. Do you smoke pot? If you smoke pot – you are participating (and contributing) at the fundamental level with murder, child abuse, human trafficking, and billions of US tax dollars wasted.

It is easy to yell at the TV. It’s hard to see it in us FIRST. Get the plank out of your eye – then you will see clearly. Recovery begins with ME – not you. It begins with US not THEY. We have to police US first.

We need to do what we know we need to do.
